I recently completed a re-purposing project for a local small business.  They had six desk-side PCs.  They were all running Windows XP, had 40GB disk drives, and were used exclusively for browser-based applications.
With all of the patches that have accumulated on Windows XP over the years, the PCs had slowed down to the point they were difficult to use.
By replacing Windows XP with a light-weight Linux-based operating system, the same browser-based applications became quick and nimble, and the computers will continue to serve the owner’s business needs.
